How much does it cost?
Our after school Playing for Success programmes are free although we do ask for a contribution towards transport costs if you use our service. PFS will help with sourcing the funding for this if schools find it a prohibitive factor.

What are the programmes like?
Typically our programmes run for 6 or 9 weeks plus a presentation evening. Pupils attend the centre once a week during this time.

The 6 week programme runs for 3 hours with pupils arriving at the centre around 3.00pm.

The 9 week programme runs for 2 hours, where primary schools attend between 3:00 and 5.00pm and then secondary schools attend 5.00 to 7.00pm. (Our timings are not ridged and can often be tailored to meet a schools needs.)

Schools will be asked to select up to 14 pupils plus a reserve, who will attend in the absence of another pupil.

What will the children do at the centre?
Based on a chat with our contact at your school we can tailor the course to the needs of the pupils by giving the course; literacy, numeracy, IT skills, increase in confidence/self esteem, gifted and talented or creative IT bias. All the activities are geared to using the facilities at the football club plus our extensive suite of IT equipment and software. Our activities can include visits to the shop to look at profit and loss and percentages, a full stadium tour with a follow up getting the children to recount their tour, using various pieces of software. Other sessions include instructional text in our wacky sports activity, persuasive language in our trainer design session as well as numeracy activities that look at money, distance and shape.

How do the children get there?
For our after school Playing for Success programmes, our bus service picks the children up from school at a designated time and will return them there after the session ends. We provide an escort on the bus journey in addition to our drivers. (As with all PFS staff the driver and escort are CRB checked)

Does the teacher need to come?
It is better for the children if someone from the school attends, whether a teacher, learning mentor or even a parent/governor, to show an interest in the work and to share in the children’s achievements.

How do I select the pupils?
The after school programme is generally aimed at pupils who can potentially attain level  4 with some extra motivation and inspiration, but we can tailor the programme to fit in with aspects of your school development plan. Please discuss any identified focus when the tutor makes a visit to your school. Our centre will provide you with a pack that will help you identify the right sort of pupils for the programme.

Who will deliver the programme?
As a general rule there will be two members of staff at the sessions, the tutor who is a qualified teacher and a learner support officer. Additionally there may be other members of the team at sessions and one or more of our volunteer mentors who come from the local area to volunteer at the centre. Everyone working at the centre has had a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

How are the sports club involved?
The sports club provide a classroom area in an exciting location, an environment where challenge and achievement are valued and access to the players and good role models for the pupils. Playing for Success is not sports coaching.
